Google Cloud appoints country director for Indonesia

Google Cloud has appointed Karim Siregar as its country director for Indonesia, tasking the former fintech executive with leading the company’s growth strategy in one of Southeast Asia’s fastest-growing cloud and artificial intelligence markets.

Siregar joins Google Cloud after holding senior technology and digital leadership roles across Indonesia’s financial services sector. He was the founding president director of GoTo-backed Bank Jago, served as CEO of DKatalis Digital Lab—the technology arm behind the lender’s digital banking platform—and was previously chief information officer at BFI Finance.

In his new role, Siregar is expected to lead Google Cloud’s local business strategy, including customer engagement and partner ecosystem development, and the expansion of the company’s cloud and AI offerings across enterprises, government institutions, startups, and small businesses.

He reports directly to Mark Micallef, managing director for Southeast Asia at Google Cloud.

His appointment comes as demand for cloud computing, data analytics, cybersecurity, and generative AI services continues to grow among Indonesian organisations pursuing digital transformation initiatives.

Google Cloud has been steadily expanding its presence in Indonesia as organisations increase spending on cloud infrastructure, data analytics, cybersecurity, and generative AI applications. The company has also deepened partnerships with local enterprises across sectors, including banking, telecommunications, media, and the public sector.

Microsoft appoints new country general manager

Separately, Microsoft has appointed Gunawan Susanto as its new country general manager.

Susanto will oversee Microsoft’s operations and partner ecosystem in Indonesia, with a focus on responsible AI adoption, local talent development, and inclusive growth. He succeeds Dharma Simorangkir, who led Microsoft Indonesia through a period of strong growth.

Susanto joins Microsoft after holding leadership positions at several global technology firms, most recently serving as president director of Amazon Web Services (AWS) Indonesia. He previously led IBM Indonesia and has more than three decades of experience in the country’s technology industry.

Beyond his corporate leadership roles, he has invested in Indonesia’s healthcare sector through a private equity fund and serves as an independent commissioner at PT Dayamitra Telekomunikasi (Mitratel).

The leadership change comes amid a broader race among hyperscalers to strengthen their Indonesian operations. Microsoft, which last year pledged a $1.7 billion investment to expand cloud and AI infrastructure in the country, said Susanto will oversee its business and partnerships across public-sector institutions, large enterprises, startups, and small and medium-sized businesses.

According to Microsoft, more than 2 million Indonesians have participated in its Microsoft Elevate programme, with over 1.2 million earning Microsoft-recognised credentials as part of the company’s effort to build local AI and digital talent.

Indonesia has become a key market for global technology companies as demand for cloud services and AI applications accelerates across industries ranging from financial services and manufacturing to retail and the public sector.
