India Digest: Jungle may reinvest in CityMall; Samara Capital backs logistics firms

CityMall is looking to raise Rs 400-500 crore in fresh funding, while Samara Capital has bought stakes in Associated Road Carriers (ARC) and Calyx Container Terminals to create a platform.

CityMall in talks to raise capital from Jungle Ventures, others

CityMall, which caters to customers in non-metro markets, is looking to raise Rs 400-500 crore in fresh funding in a round led by its existing backer Jungle Ventures, per a report by The Economic Times.

The round could also see participation from new and existing investors, added the report. The proposed deal is expected to value CityMall at around Rs 4,000 crore.

Headquartered in Gurugram, CityMall secured Rs 350 crore last September from a host of investors such as Accel, WaterBridge Ventures, Elevation Capital, General Catalyst, and others. Before that, it raised $75 million in 2022 in a round led by Norwest Venture Partners.

The company is said to be looking at an IPO route over the next six to eight quarters.

Established in 2019, CityMall offers groceries, home and kitchen products, small electronics, and general merchandise. It follows a next-day delivery model, offering affordable products across these mass-market categories through its own private labels and a selection of regional brands.

Samara Capital buys stakes in ARC and Calyx

Samara Capital, a private equity (PE) major in India, has bought stakes in Associated Road Carriers (ARC) and Calyx Container Terminals for around Rs 1,200 crore, stated a Mint report.

The deal will help create an integrated logistics platform, with the promoters of the companies and Samara Capital holding nearly equal stakes in the new platform.

Both ARC and Calyx Container Terminals plan to use the capital to expand their branch and hub network, strengthen logistics capabilities, and ramp up technology. They may also use some of the capital to pursue acquisitions to deepen their presence across India.

The two companies had revenue of around Rs 2,140 crore in FY26.
