Global private markets investor Pantheon has announced raising $6 billion for its latest global private equity secondaries fund, exceeding its $3.5 billion target, with significant commitments from new investors in Asia and the Middle East.
The firm said Pantheon Global Secondaries Fund VIII and associated vehicles had reached their final close, marking its largest private equity secondaries fundraising to date.
The fundraise follows Pantheon’s deployment of about $3.35 billion across 17 secondary transactions in 2025, reflecting its deal flow and investor demand for secondaries as a portfolio management tool.
The predecessor fund, Pantheon Global Secondaries Fund VII and associated vehicles, closed in 2023 with commitments totalling $3.25 billion.
“We enter this next phase with strong conviction in our ability to keep identifying compelling opportunities for our investors,” said Amyn Hassanally, partner and global head of Private Equity Secondaries at Pantheon.
The fund invests in the global mid-market through a combination of limited partner-led and general partner-led transactions, focusing on buyout strategies, per the announcement.
It aims to provide exposure to established private equity managers that may be difficult for investors to access directly, while diversifying investments across fund vintages, managers, and geographies, Pantheon said.
Pantheon said its private equity secondaries strategy forms part of its $41 billion private equity platform, which covers primary fund commitments, co-investments and secondary purchases.
The firm said it made its first private equity secondaries investment in 1988.
“We are pleased to complete our largest private equity secondaries fundraise to date at $6 billion, building on nearly four decades of experience in this market,” said Florence Dard, Pantheon’s chief client officer.
Pantheon had approximately $84 billion in discretionary assets under management as of March 31, 2026, investing across private equity, infrastructure and private credit.
In an interview with DealStreetAsia last year, Brian Lim, partner and head of Pantheon’s Asia and Emerging Markets Investment team, said buyer depth in Asia’s secondaries market has held firm thanks to global fund-of-funds, secondaries specialists, sovereign wealth funds, and local investors who are active as both buyers and sellers.
