Samuthra Group, a diversified business conglomerate in India, has acquired a 50% stake in Singapore-based Nandhana’s restaurant group, marking its strategic entry into the international food and hospitality sector.

According to a press statement issued by the company, it plans to acquire the remaining 50% stake in phases, with the transaction expected to be completed before April 2027.

Founded in southern Tamil Nadu in 2006, Samuthra Group has interests in sectors such as industrial parks, mining, infrastructure, construction, power, renewable energy, trading and entertainment. The group operates through 35 companies across 11 countries, including India, Singapore, the UAE, Malaysia and Sri Lanka. Its businesses include Samuthra Cement.

The expansion, said the company, is expected to create around 2,000 jobs globally, including 1,250 confirmed placements. The company also expects to spend about S$10 million a year in India on sourcing ingredients, food processing, culinary training and related investments.

“The acquisition of Nandhana’s marks Samuthra Group’s strategic entry into the international food and hospitality sector and is an important step in our vision to take established Indian food brands to global markets,” said Subash Sukumar, Founder and Chairman, Samuthra Group. “With a strong presence in Singapore, Nandhana’s offers a valuable platform for expansion across Asia, the Middle East, the US and the UK.”

Going forward, Samuthra Group plans to expand Nandhana’s overseas through a master franchise model, partnering with local operators in different countries.

The first phase, starting January 2027, will cover Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and markets in the Middle East, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar and Oman. The group plans to enter the US and UK in the second phase, during 2028-29.
