Japanese electronics and technology company TDK Corporation is acquiring Malaysia-based lithium-ion battery maker Linergy Power for about $241 million.

In a filing, TDK said its Singapore-based rechargeable battery unit, Amperex Technology (Singapore) Pte Ltd, will acquire 100% of Linergy’s ordinary shares, making the Kuala Lumpur-headquartered company a wholly owned subsidiary.

The deal, which is expected to close on June 15, values Linergy’s shares at $240 million, with an additional estimated $1.1 million in advisory fees and related costs.

TDK said the acquisition forms part of its long-term “TDK Transformation” strategy unveiled in 2024, which aims to strengthen the company’s position in energy solutions and accelerate growth in rechargeable batteries.

“In the core Energy Solution Business, the company has continually introduced high-value-adding new products to the market through cutting‑edge technological development of small and medium capacity batteries, building trust among a diverse customer base,” TDK said.

Linergy, established in December 2024, manufactures lithium-ion rechargeable batteries and had total assets of about $380 million as of March 31, 2026. TDK indirectly already owns a 25.5% stake in the company.

The filing showed Linergy generated consolidated net sales of just $178,030 in the fiscal year ended March 2026, while posting an operating loss of about $22.7 million.

The figures suggest the company remains in an early ramp-up or capacity-building phase, despite its sizeable asset base.

TDK said acquiring Linergy would help it build a more flexible global supply structure capable of meeting customer demand across multiple markets.

TDK already has a production base in China through a joint venture with battery giant Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd., or CATL.

The company is a major global supplier of electronic components, sensors, power supplies, and rechargeable batteries used in smartphones, laptops, AI servers, industrial equipment, and electric vehicles.

It is headquartered in Tokyo and is listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. According to its filing, TDK generated about $16.6 billion in sales in fiscal 2026 and employs roughly 107,000 people globally.
