Vingroup to launch international school in Hanoi next year

Vietnamese conglomerate Vingroup has announced plans to open VERTA International School in Hanoi in August 2027, adding a new brand to its education portfolio.

The K-12 school, located at 148 Giang Vo, will offer an English-language curriculum based on a US-oriented educational approach, with courses including artificial intelligence, advanced computing, engineering, biomedical science and entrepreneurship.

VERTA will have a maximum capacity of approximately 800-1,000 students. Admissions will begin in October 2026, targeting an initial intake of about 400 students across Grades 1-11, Vingroup said in an October 15 announcement.

The group did not disclose the investment size.

The school is being developed by VS Company, a Vingroup entity, and joins the conglomerate’s existing education brands, including Vinschool, Brighton College Vietnam, Vin Nexus Center and VinUniversity.

Its curriculum will include Advanced Placement courses in the upper grades and projects drawing on Vingroup’s businesses across healthcare, technology, industry, mobility and urban development, according to the announcement.

Tarek Razik, an educator with more than 35 years of experience, will lead VERTA. Razik previously headed Jakarta Intercultural School and the International School of Beijing.

I Squared Capital opens Tokyo office, appoints principal

Infrastructure investor I Squared Capital, which manages $60 billion in assets, has opened a Tokyo office as it seeks investments in Japan’s energy, digital and other infrastructure sectors.

The Miami-headquartered firm has appointed Go Suzuki as a principal in Tokyo. Suzuki brings more than two decades of experience at institutions including Global Infrastructure Partners, now part of BlackRock, Macquarie Asset Management and UBS.

He will work alongside managing director Yuko Watanabe Shah, who leads the firm’s investor relations activities in Japan.

The office opening expands I Squared’s presence in Japan, where it has worked with institutional investors as limited partners and co-investors for more than a decade and invested through portfolio companies.

Its Japanese investments include battery storage projects developed by Hexa Renewables, the firm’s pan-Asian renewable energy platform. Hexa secured 11 battery energy storage contracts in Japan’s 2024 Long-Term Decarbonization Capacity Auction, making it the largest single winner, according to I Squared.

I Squared has deployed more than $9 billion across Asia-Pacific since its first regional investment in 2014. It currently has 26 portfolio companies operating in 17 markets in the region.

Its regional partnerships include a $3 billion platform with the US International Development Finance Corporation to support energy infrastructure across South and Southeast Asia, as well as tie-ups with Japan’s JOIN and South Korea’s GS E&C.
