Aastha started her career as a Television journalist with NDTV, one of India’s oldest broadcast media houses, where she covered banking and finance, after which she joined CNBC TV 18 in India in 2013. During her stint at CNBC, she extensively covered the 5600 cr National Spot Exchange Scam (financial scam). She also covered corporate sectors like power, infrastructure, deals, M&A, regulatory stories and tax during her CNBC stint. Her inclination towards learning new things has brought her close to business feature writing as well. After she moved to Indonesia in 2015, she started working as a contributing writer with the magazine, Forbes Indonesia featuring important businesses of Indonesia, including many global players making a mark here. She has also written opinion articles in the Jakarta Post.

Amala Balakrishner

Writer

Amala is a Singapore-based journalist. An economist by training, she has a nose for news and enjoys telling stories on macroeconomics, inequality, listed companies, venture capital and start-ups. In her most recent role, Amala was a financial journalist at The Edge Singapore. Highlights of her work include reporting on the Singapore Budgets in 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022, listed companies and the 2013 penny stock crash court trial. She also hosted several webcast episodes on commodities, cryptocurrencies and pressing stock market trends in the US. Prior to this, she had a stint as a broadcast business journalist with Channel NewsAsia. Outside work, Amala is passionate about uplifting individuals from marginalised communities and volunteers with youth-at-risk.

Amal Sudheer

Research Analyst

Amal is a Bengaluru-based business journalist. He worked with Reuters for close to three years where he covered regional stock markets and the US tech sector with a focus on gaming, social media, and semiconductor manufacturing companies. Before his stint at Reuters, Amal graduated from Chennai-based Asian College of Journalism’s Bloomberg program, which specializes in business journalism. Amal is also a passionate photographer and was selected for National Geographic’s photo camp in Chennai, where he got to learn photo-feature writing under Paul Salopek and Matthieu Paley.

Andi Haswidi

Head, Asean Research

Based in Jakarta, Andi Haswidi is an accomplished researcher, journalist and author. Prior to his current role with DEALSTREETASIA, he was the head of Asean research for FT Confidential, a research unit of the Financial Times. He started his career as a journalist in 2005 when he joined Indonesia’s leading English newspaper, The Jakarta Post, where he later became a business editor. He also had a brief stint as a business editor for Tempo weekly magazine before switching to the field of research for the FT in 2013. Andi is a recipient of the British Chevening Scholarship, with a master’s degree in public policy from University of Bristol. His first book, KOPI: Indonesian Coffee Craft & Culture, was published in 2018 by Afterhours Books, with foreword by President Joko Widodo.

Angus Mackintosh

Consulting Editor, DealStreetAsia & Founder, CrossASEAN Research

Angus Mackintosh is a consulting editor with DealStreetAsia responsible for publication’s Southeast Asia (SEA) digital economy weekly newsletter and also its monthly research reports. Angus is also the Founder of CrossASEAN Research and and publishes on Smartkarma. With more than 30 years of covering Asian markets in Equity Sales and Research, he possesses in-depth knowledge of a wide range of companies, economies, and markets in Asia. For the last 10 years has mainly focused on South-East Asia, and more recently included the digital economy in his coverage. Over his career, he specialised in HK/China and ASEAN markets at various different Investment Banks, laterally up heading equities in Indonesia for Bank of America Merrill Lynch in Jakarta before becoming an Independent analyst.

Ariba Shahid

Ariba Shahid is a business and economics journalist with two years of experience covering the State Bank of Pakistan, Pakistan Stock Exchange, Startups, Macroeconomic Developments, and FMCGs. She is a recipient of an Agahi Award in 2021 for the Pakistan – India Relations Category. She tweets as @aribashahid. In her free time, she is often found reminding Pakistani politicians that the stock market isn’t an accurate indicator of the economy. Her articles can be read at Profit Magazine by Pakistan Today, and she has been featured on BBC News, PTV World, Dawn, and Channel 5.

Deepshikha has over 15 years of experience in media and communication. She started her career as a business journalist with Business Standard and The Economic Times where she reported on information technology, retail and consumer goods. Prior to joining DealStreetAsia, she was a digital marketer at Honeywell, a Fortune 100 technology firm.

Eudora Wang

Senior Reporter, Hong Kong

Eudora Wang is a Senior Reporter with DealStreetAsia, primarily tracking and covering the venture capital, private equity and the start-up ecosystem in Hong Kong and China.  

Eudora previously served as the Chief Reporter at Hong Kong-based online media outlet China Money Network, where she focused on technology innovation, smart investments and special situations in Greater China. Prior to China Money Network, Wang worked with Bloomberg Businessweek (Beijing) and Hunan TV Station, China.

She has a Master’s degree in International Journalism Studies from Hong Kong Baptist University and a Bachelor’s degree in Radio & Television from Xi’an International Studies University, China.

Joji Thomas Philip

Founder & Editor-in-Chief

Joji is the founder of DEALSTREETASIA. He is a 24×7 information enthusiast, currently based in Singapore, and leads a pan-Asia team. Prior to this, he was among the most prolific journalists in India, and chronicled the communications/telecoms segment, breaking some of the biggest stories in these sectors, during his tenure at The Economic Times, and Business Standard. Since 2013, he has also been with Mint, a financial daily from HT Media Ltd. Joji has won the Business Standard-Seema Nazareth Award for Excellence in Journalism in March 2006. He is a twitterholic and a soccer fan who is only off the internet when motorcycling in the Himalayas.

Joymitra Rai

Joymitra worked as a journalist for 13 years (2001-2014) before taking a career break to be with her family. She started her career as a sub-editor at Business Standard and then moved to The Economic Times in 2004. She also handled the national edition front page at ET.

While being a full-time mother, Joymitra took up freelance editing assignments and wrote on travel and lifestyle. Most recently, Joymitra worked as an Editor in Business and Finance at Cactus Communications, editing high-value research papers in economics, statistics, health, and sociology.

Joymitra enjoys travelling to discover new places and meeting new people.

Khamila has nearly 10 years of experience in media and communication where she worked in multiple Jakarta-based media outlets and internet companies. Prior to joining DealStreetAsia, she was with KrASIA where she reported on information technology, venture capital, startup development, and gig economy.

Kristie, based in Singapore, is a Senior Writer at DEALSTREETASIA. Prior to joining DEALSTREETASIA, she was with CNBC International and Channel NewsAsia, where she wrote and produced business stories for television. At We Are Social, a digital agency, Kristie launched iQ Asia, Intel’s first online magazine for the Asia Pacific region. She has also built content strategies for brands such as Twentieth Century Fox and Lavazza. When not writing or reporting, Kristie gives walking tours at the Asian Civilisation Museum in Singapore. She is an advocate for anti-human and anti-sex trafficking in Asia.

Mars W. Mosqueda Jr.

Correspondent, Philippines

Mars is a Philippine-based journalist with over 15 years of experience covering business and major events in the Philippines and some parts of Southeast Asia. He was Cebu news bureau chief of a leading national newspaper from 2001 to 2016 and was correspondent of Reader’s Digest (Asia) magazine from 2004 to 2013. He was also freelance reporter for ChinaTopix.com, Pasadena Now, Asia Golf Monthly, ParGolf Asia, Business Mirror, and a number of niche business news sites in the region. Mars is a member of the Cebu Federation of Beat Journalists, the only duly-registered organization of beat reporters in the Philippines.

Michelle Teo

Michelle is a journalist with nearly two decades of experience covering business and international affairs. 

She is deeply concerned about the growing gaps in the global economy and believes there is a need to reform capitalism for a more equitable and sustainable system.

She was part of Al Jazeera English’s global launch team in Kuala Lumpur, and her last role was Chief Editor at The Edge Singapore. Michelle obtained her Master of Science in International Relations at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies.

Ngoc Nguyen

Senior Writer, Private Equity & Venture Capital

Ngoc has 8 years of experience working in media and communication. She was DEALSTREETASIA’s Vietnam-based reporter during the 2015-2017 period, when she was a frequent moderator for local startup events. Ngoc also worked for Mekong Capital, Vietnam’s earliest private equity firm, as the company’s corporate communications officer, before she joined DEALSTREETASIA again in September 2018. Prior to DEALSTREETASIA and Mekong Capital, Ngoc was a financial markets reporter at Vietnam News, the first English-language publication in Vietnam. She was awarded Vietnam Startup Journalist of the Year 2016 by the ASEAN Ricebowl Startup Awards.

J Padmapriya is the news editor for DEALSTREETASIA. A business journalist with 15 years of experience in newsroom operations, she has spent close to a decade in India’s Economic Times and has served stints at VCCircle.com, Financial Express and Asian Age. As deputy editor of VCCircle.com in 2009-2011, she was responsible for the overall production of the website. She was among 12 journalists selected from India for the British Chevening scholarship (2005). She holds a PG degree in English literature from Delhi University and a PG diploma in journalism from the Indian Institute of Mass Communication.

Paramita Chatterjee

Based in Delhi, Paramita is a business journalist with over 16 years of experience. Over the years, she has reported on Mergers and Acquisitions, Private Equity and Venture Capital. Prior to joining DEALSTREETASIA, she was with The Economic Times, Businessworld and Forbes India. She has also had a brief stint at the Confederation of Indian Industry wherein she undertook policy advocacy work to facilitate growth in the infrastructure sector. Paramita is a guest faculty at The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (Dhenkenal).

Pramod Mathew

Pramod began his journalism career as a copy editor for The Economic Times in 2010. After a five-year stint at the paper, he joined Forbes India as its deputy head of desk, where he was trusted with data visualisation projects including for proprietary specials such as The Forbes India Rich List. 
 
Before joining DealStreetAsia, Pramod had a two-year stint with Quartz India as its desk editor. He contributed to the website’s coverage of the Indian economy and the country’s corporate sector.
 
He is an alumnus of the Asian College of Journalism, Chennai.

Pramugdha Mamgain

Correspondent & Content Specialist, India

Pramugdha is the correspondent and content specialist for DEALSTREETASIA in India. She has over five years of experience in reporting and tracking financial news at the Economic Times, a stint as a writer for a travel portal and has also taught economics, marketing, journalism at an MBA programme faculty at Amity University, New Delhi. Pramugdha is a BA (Hons) in Economics from Delhi University. She did her post-graduate studies in economics and then in journalism (Times Centre of Media Studies, New Delhi) and also holds an MBA in finance from Symbiosis, Pune.

Quynh Nguyen

Quynh Nguyen is the Vietnamese consultant for DEALSTREETASIA. She is an enthusiastic journalist with a nose for news. She brings over three years of journalism experience to the team and has written hundreds of stories on Vietnam’s economy. Graduating from Vietnam’s Academy of Journalism and Communications, she joined Vietnam Economic Times as an economic reporter specializing in business, agriculture, startups and real estate. She also collaborated with several private companies in Vietnam as an interpreter. As a journalist, she is convinced that acumen and prudence are the two most important factors for a writer.

Tabita Diela

Tabita is a Jakarta-based journalist since 2012. She began her career at the online news outlet Kompas.com before joining Globe Asia magazine and Jakarta Globe print to cover Indonesia’s economy and corporations. She joined Reuters in late 2017 to cover monetary policy, macroeconomy, banking, and occasionally general news. In her spare time, she enjoys playing with her puppies and writing movie reviews.

Vibhuti Sharma

Vibhuti started her journalism career as a business correspondent with Reuters in Bangalore, India. During her 4-year long stint with Reuters, she extensively covered the U.S. technology sector including writing exclusives, interviews and breaking some of the biggest news in the sector. Prior to joining DealStreet Asia as a correspondent, Vibhuti briefly worked as a content specialist with investment advisory firm SA Global Advisors, where she learned more about the nitty-gritty of the world of deal-making. She holds a bachelor’s in Journalism & Mass Communication from Manipal University. Apart from watching TV and reading non-fiction, Vibhuti likes painting and singing in her free time.

Adele Ku

Adele is a Campaign Associate in DealStreetAsia. She is a fresh graduate from the National University of Singapore with a background in Policy and Quantitative Economics. Her previous experience at a FinTech start-up has sparked her passion in working in a fast growing and dynamic start-up environment. She is excited to bring new ideas and solve challenges on a day to day basis with innovative solutions. 

In her free time, Adele enjoys watching movies, dancing and spending quality time with her friends and family. She also loves to travel and aspires to immerse herself in the different cultures all around the world. 



Anuradha Sarang

Account Manager, Subscriptions

Anuradha Sarang is currently the Account Manager, Subscriptions at Deal Street Asia. A civil engineer by training, she moved away from a conventional career to work on her own alternative education project in Kerala for over a decade. Also worked as a freelance translator. She has taken a fresh step into marketing after a move to Bengaluru, India.

She is passionate about education, environment and sustainability. Raising three unschooled children with her partner she enjoys traveling, books, and a good cup of tea.

Audrey Mah Jia Hsing

Events Lead

Audrey is the Events Lead in DealStreetAsia. She comes from a Finance and Accounting background but is a true marketer, by heart. She did her first mood board design at 23, during her stint as a wedding planner and has never looked back since. She has 8 years of bringing to life the best brand stories across multiple regions through experiential B2B & B2C events, leading and building community and partnerships.

When she’s not working, Audrey loves staying home with a good movie or going out to cafe hop and food hunt. She also loves to travel and her signature dish is her YouTube-learned kimchi jjigae!

Julia Zhou

Events Assistant

Julia assists with events and marketing at DealStreetAsia.

She is currently a Macquarie University student undertaking a double degree in law and professional accounting. Apart from being an active member of a number of societies at her university, Julia has successfully started her own society which she is currently presiding over.

Outside of her university commitments, Julia has had experience working in the food, hospitality, finance and administration.

In her spare time, she enjoys trying new foods, travelling and attending concerts.

Margot Lai

Margot is the Marketing Manager at DealStreetAsia. Originally from Taiwan, she has worked for the past years in the USA. Prior to Margot’s current role, she was the Marketing Research and Communication Specialist at Boston University.

She holds an M.S. in Mass Communication with specializations in Marketing Communication Research and Data Analytics from Boston University and a B.A. in Public Relations and Advertising from Shih Hsin University.

In her free time, Margot enjoys baking, dancing, and snowboarding.

Natassja Sims

Office Coordinator

Natassja is the Office Coordinator for DealStreetAsia. She has worked across various industries in creative advertising, banking & the airline firm with an administrative business support and customer service background. She assists in the business administration within the firm.

In her spare time, she loves to cook, bake and babysit her 2 beautiful nieces during her weekends.

Stephen André Jacob

Chief Operating Officer

Stephen is Chief Operating Officer at DealStreetAsia where he is responsible for all non-editorial activities (sales, marketing, strategy & product development).

In his prior role as Chief Marketing Officer at Paneco Singapore, he was key in the rapid expansion of the ecommerce platform. Based in Singapore since 2010, he was previously marketing manager at OANDA and a freelance digital marketer. For nearly a decade he worked in development finance in Chicago. He began his career as a business analyst in NY & London at Marakon Associates, a management consulting firm.

He has a Bachelors in Economics from University of Illinois-Urbana and an MPP from the Harvard Kennedy School.

He speaks English & French with a working knowledge of Japanese and Mandarin.

Vincent Kan

B2B Subscription Sales Manager

Vincent is the Subscription Sales Manager at DealStreetAsia. He is a finance graduate from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and have been active in the startup space for most of his career as he believes that’s where opportunities lie.

An aspiring entrepreneur, he is always on the lookout & investing in new ideas that can potentially disrupt the status quo and bring value to the society at large as he believes that innovation and creativity is the way to go in solving problems of the modern world.

Outside of work, he is someone who loves sports, travelling and watching comedies for a good laugh.

Wan-Yi is an enthusiastic, creative communication designer for over 4 years with extensive experience in branding and marketing communication. She is currently based in Thailand. Leads Art Director team at Karun Beverage Company and founder of Together Design & Risograph Studio. Her passion is to design a creative and solid execution for brands and companies to improve the connections between users and products.

Wilfred Wong

Wilfred manages DealStreetAsia’s partnerships and events sponsorship. He has over a decade of commercial experience, the recent half of which was spent with leading media publications. Prior to DealStreetAsia, Wilfred was managing business development at The Economist. 
An entrepreneur at heart, Wilfred believes that startups are the true problem solvers in today’s economy, providing a nimble edge to deliver practical, ground up solutions that disrupt convention. Forward looking thought leadership then becomes the key to take their case to a competitive Asian market, and shape the future.

In Singapore, we are looking to double our reporting team by this year-end to comprehensively cover the fast-moving world of funded startups and VC, PE & M&A deals. We want reporters who can tell our readers what is really happening in these sectors and why it matters to markets, companies and consumers. The ability to write precisely and urgently is crucial for these roles. Ideal candidates must have to ability to work in a collaborative, dynamic, and fast-changing environment. We want our new hires to be digitally savvy and ready to experiment with new forms of storytelling. Most importantly, we are looking for hard-hitting reporters who work well in a team. Collaboration and collegiality are a must.
