NUS Enterprise, the entrepreneurial arm of the National University of Singapore (NUS), has rebranded as NUSX to deepen its role in venture building and intellectual property commercialisation, according to a press release.

NUSX said the rebranding reflects its evolution into an integrated platform connecting research, entrepreneurial talent, industry, capital and international markets. Its next phase will put greater emphasis on building ventures for global markets from the outset, in line with Singapore’s Research, Innovation and Enterprise 2030 plan, which has committed an outlay of S$37 billion ($29 billion) over five years.

As part of the push, NUSX is expanding its network of international outposts. Following the launch of its first outpost at Playground Global’s The Studio in Silicon Valley in July, it is setting up a second location in Munich, while a third is planned for Shanghai in the fourth quarter of 2026. The outposts are designed to give NUS deep-tech startups earlier access to overseas customers, investors and industry partners.

NUSX has also partnered with German innovation centre UnternehmerTUM to connect NUS ventures with Munich’s technology ecosystem. The collaboration will focus on biotech, artificial intelligence and semiconductors, covering reciprocal outposts, investment and talent development.

Separately, NUSX and Zima Labs have developed Nova, an AI-powered research commercialisation platform designed to identify potential licensing and partnership opportunities for university intellectual property. Nova draws on more than 20,000 NUS patents and invention disclosures, 9,000 research projects and 11,000 inventors, and uses external market data to identify potential licensees, partners and investors.

NUSX is focusing its deep-tech activities across four areas: Logic, covering AI and software; Pulse, focused on healthcare and biotech; Resilience, covering dual-use technologies; and Matter, which encompasses physical sciences, materials and semiconductors.

“As the global race to commercialise deep tech accelerates, breakthrough research is only the starting point. The real challenge is translation: finding the right opportunities, validating them early, building strong teams and connecting founders with the capital, industry and markets they need to scale,” said Tan Sian Wee, NUS senior vice president for innovation and enterprise.

The National University of Singapore (NUS) is Singapore’s flagship university, which offers a global approach to education, research and entrepreneurship, with a focus on Asian perspectives and expertise. Since 2001, NUSX has nurtured 10 unicorns, more than 3,000 start-ups and 5,500 students.
