Indonesia’s Laku6, which was acquired by Carousell in 2022, has reportedly laid off workers while Singapore’s Supabase has purchased storage extension company Oriole.

Carousell’s Laku6 lays off staff

Indonesian electronics recommerce firm Laku6 laid off about 17% of its workforce in January for “long-term sustainability”,  Tech in Asia reported.

Affected employees will receive compensation and employment assistance as per government regulations, the report added.

Carousell acquired Laku6 in July 2022 after investing $25 million in the firm. The deal was also supported by Heliconia Capital Management, a Temasek Holdings unit.

At the time of acquisition, Laku6 had processed over half a million mobile phone transactions and served 16,000 merchants.

Founded in 2016, Laku6 allows users to trade devices through its app. The company’s technology can diagnose secondhand mobile phone conditions in under two minutes.

Supabase acquires Oriole

Supabase, a Singapore-based database-as-a-service startup (DBaaS), has acquired storage extension company Oriole for an undisclosed amount.

Known for providing developers with essential tools to build and scale web and mobile applications, Supabase aims to enhance its services with Oriole’s innovative cloud-native storage engine designed specifically for PostgreSQL databases.

Supabase was founded in 2020 by Paul Copplestone and Anthony Wilson. It was part of Y Combinator’s Summer 2020 class, the accelerator’s first cohort to be entirely remote.

The startup raised $80 million in Series B funding in 2022, anchored by Silicon Valley venture capital firm Felicis Ventures.
