Brookfield Oaktree’s China wealth head has reportedly exited the firm while alternative asset manager Blackstone announced a leadership shuffle at its Tactical Opportunities division.
Brookfield Oaktree’s China head exits
Joy Yue Wang, head of Greater China at Brookfield Oaktree Wealth Solutions, has exited the company after a two-year stint, according to a Private Equity International report on Wednesday.
Wang joined Brookfield in 2022 from PIMCO and rebuilt the firm’s Hong Kong office from a single-employee legacy operation to a fully functional team spanning five business units, per her LinkedIn profile.
Wang said she designed and executed a business strategy that helped raise over $1.4 billion in two years, through more than 50 distribution channels across three jurisdictions.
Wang was head of China, Global Wealth Management, at PIMCO before joining Brookfield. She was also executive director, of Institutional Sales, North America, at Goldman Sachs.
Brookfield Oaktree Wealth Solutions is a provider of alternative investments to advisors and their clients globally. The firm considers Asia Pacific a strategically important region on the back of the growing demand for alternatives from HNW investors.
Blackstone announces leadership moves
Alternative asset manager Blackstone has announced a leadership shuffle at its Tactical Opportunities (Tac Opps) division, moving Chris James, the current Chief Operating Officer, as global head.
James, who is a founding member of Tac Opps, will succeed David Blitzer, who will transition to chairman of the business at the end of this year, per the announcement.
Long-time Tac Opps senior partners Jas Khaira and Qasim Abbas have also been given expanded leadership roles as head of Tac Opps Americas and Tac Opps International, respectively.
Launched in 2012, Tac Opps manages $37 billion in assets, investing across private opportunities outside traditional private equity and credit.
Last year, Blackstone closed Blackstone Tactical Opportunities Fund IV with nearly $10 billion in new capital, the largest-ever vintage of its kind. Recent investments include CoreWeave, a cloud infrastructure provider, and Hipgnosis, a music royalty platform.
