Indonesia’s efforts to lure home its brightest tech talent living abroad have been relatively successful but would have a greater impact with more high-profile exits within the startup scene, according to UangTeman’s new CTOO and former Silicon Valley professional Sukan Makmuri.
“One thing that could make it more attractive is success stories of Indonesian startups getting acquired or going for IPOs,” said Makmuri, who previously held executive positions in O2O startup Kudo and online portal Kaskus.
Indonesia, like many other developing countries, is known to be suffering from a brain drain, with many of its best talent opting to move to other countries, most notably the US, and in many cases, staying there for good.
