Fiera Capital, an independent asset management firm headquartered in Montreal, Canada, has announced the appointment of Chinatsu Aoyama as a director and private markets specialist in Japan.
The senior hire underscores the asset manager’s efforts to step up distribution of its private market strategies to Japanese investors, according to the announcement.
Aoyama will be based in Fiera Capital’s Tokyo office and will support the sale and client coverage for the company’s full range of private markets offerings in Japan, per the statement.
She will report to CJ Morrell, managing director and head of Japan at Fiera Capital Asia.
The appointment is part of Fiera’s broader push to expand its presence in Japan, where it said investor demand is rising for “differentiated, actively managed” private markets solutions.
“As demand for private markets strategies continues to grow among Japanese investors, Aoyama will play an indispensable role in expanding market awareness of Fiera Capital’s private markets platform in the region,” said CJ Morrell, managing director, head of Japan, at Fiera Capital Asia.
Fiera opened its Tokyo office in October 2025 as it built out a regionalised distribution network, and cited other recent office openings in Abu Dhabi, Zurich, Madrid, and The Hague.
Aoyama has more than 15 years of investor relations experience in Japan, Fiera said. Most recently, she was a director at HQ Capital, based in Singapore, where she was responsible for business development for institutional and private investors in Japan.
She has also held roles in business development and investments at Squadron Capital, worked as a management consultant at Boston Consulting Group, and began her career at Citigroup, according to the release.
“With a long-standing track record across private markets, Fiera Capital stands out as particularly well-positioned to support Japanese investors seeking diversified sources of long-term, risk-adjusted returns,” Aoyama said.
Fiera Capital provides multi-asset solutions across both public and private market asset classes to institutional clients, financial intermediaries, and private wealth clients throughout North America, Europe, and key regions in Asia and the Middle East.
In June last year, the firm partnered with Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) to launch Fiera Qatar Equity Strategy, with $200 million in assets under management.
The strategy aims to deliver superior risk-adjusted returns by investing in equities listed on the Qatar Stock Exchange (QSE). Structured as a daily-dealing mutual strategy, it is available to international and local institutions desiring actively managed exposure to Qatar’s equity market.
