H.I.G. Capital has hired former Blackstone executive Younghee Choi as head of Asia, as the private equity firm seeks to expand its investor base across the region.

Choi has joined H.I.G.’s Capital Formation Group and will lead fundraising efforts in Asia for the firm’s private equity, credit and real assets strategies, H.I.G. said in a statement Tuesday (Sept. 1). She will be based in Hong Kong.

Choi brings more than 15 years of experience in capital formation and private markets. She joins from Blackstone, where she served as senior managing director and head of Korea Institutional Client Solutions, holding senior roles across the firm’s institutional client solutions and private wealth businesses.

At Blackstone, Choi developed relationships with institutional investors and helped build the firm’s private wealth fundraising business in South Korea, according to H.I.G.

Her appointment comes as H.I.G. seeks to broaden its Asian limited partner base and increase the reach of its global investment platforms, Jordan Peer Griffin, executive managing director and global head of the Capital Formation Group, said in the statement.

“We are pleased to welcome Younghee to H.I.G.,” Griffin said. “Her extensive capital formation experience, longstanding relationships across Asia, and ability to build enduring partnerships with institutional and private wealth investors will further strengthen our presence in the region.”

H.I.G. manages $75 billion of capital and invests across private equity, credit, real estate and infrastructure. The firm, founded in 1993, has invested in and managed more than 400 companies worldwide and currently has more than 100 companies in its portfolio, with combined sales exceeding $53 billion.

The firm has offices in the US, Europe, Latin America, Dubai and Hong Kong. Its Asian capital formation operations will be led by Choi from the Hong Kong office.
